What to do if your child has a wound after a fall?

ree

If a child has a wound after a fall, it is important to:

  • Clean and dress the wound immediately to prevent infection. Use only antiseptics suitable for open wounds. Do not use hydrogen peroxide or alcohol, as these can damage healthy tissue.

  • If the wound is significant, cover the wound: Use a sterile bandage and adhesive tape to cover the wound. This will protect it from dirt and bacteria. Change the bandage: Change the bandage at least once a day or if it becomes dirty or wet.

  • Avoid getting the wound wet when bathing or showering. If the wound gets wet, change the bandage right away.

  • Watch for signs of infection: Keep an eye on the wound for signs of infection, such as redness, swelling, warmth, or discharge.

  • Seek medical attention if the wound is deep or won't stop bleeding.
