If a child has a wound after a fall, it is important to:
Clean and dress the wound immediately to prevent infection. Use only antiseptics suitable for open wounds. Do not use hydrogen peroxide or alcohol, as these can damage healthy tissue.
If the wound is significant, cover the wound: Use a sterile bandage and adhesive tape to cover the wound. This will protect it from dirt and bacteria. Change the bandage: Change the bandage at least once a day or if it becomes dirty or wet.
Avoid getting the wound wet when bathing or showering. If the wound gets wet, change the bandage right away.
Watch for signs of infection: Keep an eye on the wound for signs of infection, such as redness, swelling, warmth, or discharge.
Seek medical attention if the wound is deep or won't stop bleeding.
